Pakistan Squad and Sports at Asian Games 2026
Pakistan is competing across cricket, hockey, squash, athletics, boxing, rowing, swimming, kabaddi, wushu, equestrian, triathlon, table tennis, soft tennis, and esports. The 246-member contingent is one of the largest Pakistan has sent to any multi-sport event, reflecting a push to compete beyond traditional strengths in hockey and cricket. With LA 2028 Olympic qualification points available across multiple Asian Games disciplines, federation participation has been prioritised alongside medal targeting.
Pakistan Asian Games 2026: Medal Hopes
Hockey is Pakistan strongest prospect. On September 20, the Green Shirts dismantled Thailand 9-0 in Pool B. Ahmed Nadeem scored a hat-trick and Sufyan Khan struck twice from penalty corners. It was a complete, dominant display that immediately announced Pakistan as a serious gold medal contender in Nagoya.
Boxing carries high hopes. Commonwealth bronze medallist Fatima Zahra opens her Asian Games campaign against Mijgona Samadova of Tajikistan in the women 60kg. Maria Rind received a bye in women 51kg. Sumama Rehman faces Meroj Sufijonov in men 55kg. Irfan Khan faces Gichae Kim of South Korea in the 90kg division.
Cricket features both men and women squads. The men T20 campaign begins September 24 with medal matches on October 3. Women captain Fatima Sana leads the women squad which enters among the Asian medal contenders.
Squash has Noor Zaman competing as one of the most exciting young players in Asia. His performances in Nagoya will be watched closely by the squash world given the sport potential return to the Olympic program.
Pakistan Asian Games History
Pakistan has competed at every Asian Games since 1954. The 1958-1982 era produced repeated hockey gold medals. In Hangzhou 2022, Pakistan won 3 medals including a breakthrough shooting bronze by Kishmala Talat. The Nagoya 2026 Games offer the chance to significantly improve on that tally with better preparation across more disciplines.
