Swimming trials in Lahore and Karachi with The Next Olympian are now open to all Pakistani athletes. No prior experience needed. Free registration. Here is everything you need to know to sign up and compete.
Pakistan has a swimmer who competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Ahmed Durrani proved that Pakistan can produce Olympic swimmers. Now The Next Olympian is searching for the next one. If you are a swimmer in Lahore or Karachi β or anywhere across Pakistan β this is everything you need to know about swimming trials and how to get on the road to LA 2028.
Why Swimming Is a Realistic Olympic Pathway for Pakistani Athletes
Swimming is one of the most heavily medalled sports at every Olympic Games, with events across dozens of disciplines from 50m freestyle to 1500m, butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and medley. Pakistan has shown it can produce Olympic-calibre swimmers. The infrastructure challenge β limited access to 50m pools across the country β is real but improving, particularly in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
The Olympic qualification standard for swimming requires hitting specific FINA-set times at sanctioned international meets. These times are demanding but not unreachable for a truly talented Pakistani swimmer with access to quality coaching and facilities from a young age. The two-year window to LA 2028 is tight but not impossible for athletes currently near that standard.
Swimming Trials in Karachi
Karachi is Pakistan largest city and home to the country most established swimming infrastructure. The city has multiple Olympic-standard pools including facilities at the Pakistan Sports Complex and several private clubs. The Next Olympian holds swimming trials in Karachi specifically to identify talented swimmers who may not yet be part of the formal federation system.
Karachi swimming trials assess athletes across freestyle, backstroke, and butterfly events. No prior competitive experience is required to participate. Coaches look for raw swimming efficiency, natural feel for the water, and physical attributes β shoulder span, arm length, foot flexibility β that correlate with elite swimming potential. Learn more about Karachi trials.
Swimming Trials in Lahore
Lahore is Pakistan second largest city and has a growing swimming community centred around the Punjab Swimming Association. Several high-quality facilities in Lahore support year-round swimming development. The Next Olympian trials in Lahore target athletes from across Punjab, the country most populous province and a historically rich source of athletic talent.
Lahore swimming trials follow the same assessment format as Karachi: multi-stroke evaluation, physical assessment, and coach-led performance analysis. Athletes identified at Lahore trials are connected with Punjab-level swimming development programs and the Pakistan Swimming Federation national pathway. Learn more about Lahore trials.
Swimming Trials Across Pakistan
Beyond Karachi and Lahore, The Next Olympian holds swimming trials in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and other cities with adequate swimming infrastructure. The program is committed to reaching as many cities as possible, recognising that Pakistan next Olympic swimmer may be in any city in the country.
What Swimming Coaches Look For in Raw Talent
Elite swimming talent identification goes beyond simply timing athletes in the pool. Experienced coaches assess body proportions including wingspan relative to height, flexibility particularly in ankles and shoulders which determines kick efficiency and stroke range, natural water feel which describes how efficiently an untrained swimmer moves through water, and competitive response which indicates how athletes react to the presence of opponents.
Many of the world great Olympic swimmers were identified not because they were already fast, but because experienced coaches saw physical attributes and water feel that signalled extraordinary potential. The Next Olympian assessment process is specifically designed to apply this kind of sophisticated evaluation to Pakistani swimmers.
How to Register for Swimming Trials
The Next Olympian swimming trials are free and open to all Pakistani athletes. No club membership, competitive history, or formal coaching background is required. Athletes simply need to register, show up, and swim. Coaches will handle the rest.
The next Ahmed Durrani is out there somewhere in Pakistan, possibly not yet connected to any formal swimming program. Register for free swimming trials with The Next Olympian and begin your journey to the LA 2028 Olympics.
